    Arts Education Links

    Introduction

Welcome to Arts Education Links, a carefully selected set of arts education resources. Users interested in arts education advocacy will find information and resources threaded throughout these links, but the "Essential Arts Education Resources" category is a strong starting point for advocacy information.

WESTAF's "Arts Education Links" were created by Adelma Aurora Roach, an anthropologist, educator, arts education researcher and community arts leader. From 1997-1999 Adelma served as a Field Scholar at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. With Shirley Brice Heath and a team of anthropologists, artists and educators, Adelma focused her research at Stanford University and the Carnegie Foundation on the learning of young people in arts-based community organizations.

Adelma studies the creative activities and interactions of youth, both during their time outside of schools and in school-based arts programs. Rather than address youth as "at-risk," or problems to be fixed, Adelma focuses on the talents and capacities of young people as resources and resourceful participants in their communities.

Adelma currently serves as a consultant on programs relating to young people and the arts. She is also the coordinator for ALIANZA, the Arts Learning Network of Santa Fe. Adelma works with youth, schools, artists, arts organizations, museums, foundations and arts councils to develop distributed networks of communication and support for young people's learning in the arts.
